In 2018, the bank’s savings account deposits reached 1 billion naira ($2.78 million).

Wema Bank, Chief Digital Officer of Olusegun Adeniyi, was delighted with the award, saying the honour is just the icing on the cake of transformation that ALAT By Wema has brought to the Nigerian banking industry.

“We are delighted to have been named the best overall mobile app by the August platform, which is dedicated to recognizing excellence in financial technology and services companies and products. The award is a tribute to the many individuals this award-winning app has made and the excitement that comes with enterprise users.”

In its 10th year, the Nigeria Fintech Awards was created by Fintech publication Fintech Africa to recognise excellence in Fintech product design and service delivery. He informed that ALAT By Wema matches the customer’s lifestyle, helping subscribers save even more by accessing exclusive group and personal savings, a free debit card, and up to 4% annual savings interest.

Adeniyi said that since its launch in May 2017, ALAT By Wema has reduced the stress of having to walk into a branch to open an account by offering a seamless registration process using mobile, PC or tablet. Unlike other banking apps, the ALAT By Wema app provides all the banking services a customer might ask for.

“All banking apps only provide some banking services, usually airtime purchases, bill payments, and transfers. For example, even with banking apps, customers often still need to go to a physical bank to get a debit card and activate it, submit documents, and often Get some kind of customer support. That’s not the case with ALAT, which was built from the ground up to be completely digital to give customers access to all banking services anywhere they have internet access.”
