Camosun students preparing meal for Victoria’s Our Place clients

Hospitality students at Camosun College will once again lend a helping hand to prepare meals for up to 300 of Our Place Society’s clients.

The two-course lunch event will be held at noon on Thursday.

“After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, it feels good to start working with Our Place again,” said Bradford Boisvert, lecturer in the hospitality management program. “Students will plan, organise and serve lunch as part of a course on the importance of social responsibility, with hospitality as a vehicle.”

“Our Place relies on community partners like Camosun to deliver many of the services and supports we provide to some of the most vulnerable people in Greater Victoria,” said Our Place chief executive Julian Daly. “Beyond a good lunch, hopefully social responsibility experience that can last throughout a student’s career.”

Hospitality management student Caitlin Simmons is excited about the opportunity.

“Giving back to the community is important to me, and bringing hope and a sense of belonging to neighbors in need is a big part of who I want to be,” Simmons said.
