David Eby to be sworn in as B.C. premier at Vancouver Musqueam centre

David Eby will be sworn in by Lt.-Gov as the new Prime Minister of British Columbia. Janet Austin breaks tradition next week in Vancouver.

The November 18 ceremony will take place at the Musqueam Community Centre, rather than the traditional venue of the Victorian Government House.

The Prime Minister’s Office said government buildings had been booked for different events.

But Eby said in a statement that the swearing-in ceremony at the Musqueam Centre will represent a powerful symbol of the province’s shared vision for all people in B.C. to work with Indigenous peoples.

Abby, who was hailed as the NDP leader last month, said he would introduce his cabinet at a ceremony at Government House on December 7.

He will succeed outgoing Prime Minister John Horgan, who is leaving due to health concerns.

Former justice minister Eby announced a 100-day agenda last month that included health, environment, social and housing initiatives.
