Chesley Hospital ED to resume partial service

The emergency department at Chesley Hospital is resuming weekday services.

Beginning Monday, December 5th, Chesley ED will be open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. It will remain closed at night and on weekends.

Chesley Hospital ED was temporarily closed for eight weeks on October 6 due to a shortage of nurses.

South Bruce Gray Health said the partial restoration of services is a temporary solution that can be used indefinitely, as the health workforce in the province is not expected to improve significantly in the near future.

“The goal of SBGHC is to maintain four strong viable sites within our company. We understand the importance of the hospital and its emergency department to the Chesley community and heard this clearly at our recent community information session,” said Michael Barrett, President and CEO of SBGHC. “This partial reopening will help restore some level of emergency services to the Chesley community and allow SBGHC to continue working with regional partners to create a viable model for the short and long term.”
