Nail salon breaches infection prevention and control practices

Windsor Essex Health has issued a warning to people receiving services at local nail salons after finding breaches in infection prevention and control measures.

Public health officials launched an investigation at Pro Nails on Wyandotte Street after receiving complaints from the public.

The investigation found that the operators of the venue did not sanitize reusable equipment as often as needed to prevent the spread of disease, nor did they discard single-use equipment immediately after use.

All violations were corrected at the time of inspection and detailed compliance checks were completed during the investigation.

Wei Chu stated that the risk of transmission of any disease is low. It still recommends that customers receiving services at the location between September 2018 and November 7, 2022 consult their healthcare provider to determine the need for medical testing and treatment.

Currently, there are no blood-borne infections associated with the site and it remains open.
