Semi-automatic rifle seized from south London home



A London man faces multiple weapons-related charges after police seized illegal firearms and ammunition from a home in the city’s southwest end.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Firearms and Gangs Section, Emergency Response Unit and Police Dog Unit searched a home near Viscount Road and Andover Avenue on Thursday. Officers seized a Savage Model 64F .22 caliber semi-automatic long rifle, 68 rounds of ammunition and a loaded .22 caliber magazine.

A 26-year-old London man now faces a number of charges, including:

• Careless storage of firearms, prohibited firearms or prohibited equipment
• Careless storage of ammunition
• Possessing a firearm while knowingly not being a license holder
• Possessing a firearm other than a restricted or prohibited firearm while knowingly not being a license holder
• Possession of a firearm while prohibited

The accused is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
