United Way Perth Huron has announced the location of its Connection Centre in Wingham.
Executive Director Ryan Erb said the Connection Center will be located at Trinity St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, just off Main Street in Wingham, and will serve the North Huron community.
“Churches will continue to function as churches and share their space, so what’s happening is refurbishment in the basement of the building. So we’re building restroom facilities, and we’re also building laundry services and office space,” Erb explained.
The Connection Center is there to support North Huron area residents when they experience homelessness or other challenges that marginalize them in some way.
“We also want those who are not sheltered to be able to get some help there and connect with services when they arrive,” Erb said. “So the idea of a connection hub will help people in addition to their urgent needs during the day. Connect with local social services, whether it’s addiction, mental health or legal services.”
They hope to open the Connectivity Center by next spring, but that depends on the construction schedule.
