Inspector-General of Police Usman Alkali Baba has approved the consolidation of the force’s cybercrime unit in the country.
In a statement in Abuja on Friday, the force’s public relations officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi revealed the news, which he said was aimed at improving Nigeria’s campaign against cybercrime-related crimes .
He added that all units of the investigative unit will be consolidated into the National Cyber Crime Center of the Nigerian Police Force, which is based at the force headquarters in Abuja.
Adejobi said, “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR has ordered the immediate restructuring of the Cybercrime Unit of the Nigerian Police Force to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and the Cybercrime Prevention Act 2015 ” provides a strong front against cybercrime-related crimes.
“The reorganization means that all the various units under the investigative division which have dealt with cybercrime to date will be consolidated into the National Cybercrime Center of the Nigerian Police Force, which is located in the Criminal Investigation Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.”

The spokesman revealed that the IGP also approved the appointment of Deputy Police Commissioner Henry Ifeanyi as the new Director of the Cybercrime Centre.
“DCP Uche has a Masters in Security and Strategic Studies from Kefina Sarawa State University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Cyber Security at the University of Glasgow.
“He is a certified ethical hacker and computer hacking forensic investigator and has attended several local and international courses on cybersecurity.
“He is also a member of Interpol’s Cybercrime Advisory Body, the Association of Cybercrime Experts and other professional associations,” he added.
