The Department of Public Works in Owen Sound began seasonal winter containment operations earlier this week, just in time for some snowfall expected this weekend.
Owen Sound is one of Ontario’s top 10 cities for annual snowfall. The city averages 330 centimeters per year.
The city maintains 282 kilometers of lanes and 100 kilometers of sidewalks in winter.
Winter Control is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in winter, as staff work to keep roads, sidewalks and parking lots clear and comply with Ontario Minimum Maintenance Standards.
Overnight parking restrictions will take effect on Thursday, December 1, 2022. It is also illegal for people to accumulate snow on the road. Parents were asked to remind their children of the dangers of playing on snowdrifts on the street.
When it comes to litter and recycling, residents are being urged to put their collectible materials at the end of their driveways and keep them off the road.
