Downtown Mission receives national accreditation

Downtown Mission joins a prestigious roster of nonprofit organizations recognized for organizational excellence.

The mission has been endorsed by the Imagine Canada Standards program, which supports its nonprofits in five key areas; board governance, financial accountability and transparency, fundraising, employee management, and volunteer engagement.

“This certification is the Good Housekeeping Seal of Operational Excellence in the nonprofit sector,” Mission executive director Rukshini Ponniah-Goulin said in a media release. “It is the gold standard to tell our community, supporters, partners, donors and volunteers that Downtown Mission follows best practice in all areas, including transparency and financial prudence, to ensure the highest level of delivery of our programs and services .”

Accreditation is the result of a one-year process in which mission operations have been reviewed.

“Achieving the Standards Trustmark is a testament to an organization’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, efficiency and transparency in its processes,” said Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada. “We congratulate Downtown Mission for its commitment to organizational excellence and efforts to develop more Good nonprofit sector. We are excited to welcome them to the Standard Plan community.”

The certification requires the achievement of a total of 73 criteria in five key areas.
