SBGHC announces Durham ER closure Saturday

South Bruce Gray Health Center said it would close its Durham emergency department again on Saturday due to staff shortages.

The emergency department at Durham Hospital is closed from 5pm on Friday to 7am on Saturday.

It will be closed again from 5pm Saturday to 7am Sunday, the second overnight closure in a row.

An ambulance will be diverted to the nearest emergency room.

The closest emergency rooms to Durham Hospital are Hannover, 20 km away, and Forest Hill, 25 km away.

Durham Hospital is 28 km from Markdale and Walkerton emergency rooms and 46 km from Owen Sound and Palmerston hospitals.

“All efforts to find personnel for the emergency room have been unsuccessful,” a statement from SBGHC said.

“Those requiring immediate medical attention should call 911 to be taken to the nearest emergency room. For non-urgent health care needs, Health Connect Ontario is available for non-urgent health-related issues by dialing 811 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” the statement continued.

On Thursday, SBGHC announced the resumption of weekday services in the emergency department at Chesley Hospital.
