Essex County is implementing a new mask policy for all of its facilities.
Beginning Tuesday morning, medical-grade surgical masks will be required in all facilities. This includes the Civic Center, the Essex County Branch Library, and the Essex-Windsor EMS Station. Face covering requirements apply to all employees and visitors.
Both Ontario’s chief health officer and Canada’s chief public health officer recommend wearing masks indoors.
The advice was made by the Department of Health’s chief medical officer, Dr Kieran Moore, at a press conference on Monday. It comes as many pediatric units across the province are dealing with an unprecedented surge in children with respiratory illnesses.
City of Windsor officials said they were monitoring the situation but no changes have been implemented at this time.
Currently, Tecumseh Township encourages staff and residents to wear masks indoors, but does not mandate it.
