Victoria Women’s Transition House Society is looking for additional donors to help with their Christmas hamper program.
“We’re only getting 25 percent of what we need to cover,” said Deborah Rogers, the association’s communications manager. “Donations make a real difference in women’s lives.”
The program will once again see the association distribute gift cards to their customers after distributing 308 gift cards last year.
“We used to make great gift hampers with toys, toiletries and all kinds of goodies,” Rogers said. “We’ve now switched to gift card hampers because of COVID-19.”
Their clients include single women, single moms with young children or teens, and older women.
Donors are matched with women or families and receive a wish list.
“We’ve found that it’s very rewarding for donors to know they’re supporting a specific family,” Rogers added. “It gives them the opportunity to make a personal connection.”
Hampers can be personalized but must include a grocery gift card.
Donors can drop off hampers at the association’s community office between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Nov. 21-25.
“To the staff of the Victorian Women’s Transition Home Association, my son and I would like to especially thank you for providing us with funds to move to a safe location,” one basket recipient said in a statement. “We would also like to thank our donors for their generous donations of gift cards to help get us through this Christmas. I am so grateful that I can now provide my son with a safe and nurturing home, and I couldn’t have done it without your support.”
