Work to transform Dresden into ‘Christmas town’ underway

The town of Dresden is coming together to make sure the community lives up to its tagline, the Christmas town of southwest Ontario.

The holidays kick off in full on Thursday, when the entire transition will be complete.

“We are delighted to continue to develop and build Christmas Town,” Stuart Kiar, member of the Dresden Shine Steering Committee, said in a media release. “With so many volunteers coming together to make this happen, it’s fascinating to see what’s possible when we’re all working towards one goal.”

The Christmas Night Market returns on Saturday, November 26 from 3pm to 8pm in the center of Dresden. It will feature nearly 100 local vendors, food trucks, live entertainment and photo opportunities with Santa.

There will also be a pop-up holiday bar for adults to enjoy drinks.

“Thanks to the hard work of the community groups, there is something for everyone in the Christmas City,” said Liz Kominek, member of the Dresden Shines committee. “There are many reasons for us to come to Christmas Town many times throughout the holiday season.”

Festive lighting tours featuring homes and businesses are returning, with organizers encouraging Dresden and regional residents to decorate their homes with lights.

The program will give residents and visitors the opportunity to drive around the entire neighborhood and enjoy exhibits.

Other events planned for the festive period include the Dresden Kindred Santa Claus Parade, the Neighborhood Cup and the IODE House Tour.

“Our community made Christmas Town a reality,” said Dresden Shine member Rose Northcott.
