Mother and daughter assaulted after asking for lights

A 34-year-old Chatham man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting a woman and her two daughters on Monday night.

Chatham-Kent Police said they were called to the scene on Blythwood Crescent in Chatham just after 7pm on Monday.

Their investigation revealed the man first attacked the mother, pushing her to the ground after she approached him to light her cigarette.

Police said the woman’s two daughters tried to intervene when the man hit one of them in the face with his hand, causing her to fall to the ground.

He then allegedly pushed another daughter, knocking her to the ground as well.

The man accused of knocking all three victims to the ground was arrested and charged with three counts of assault.

He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Wallaceburg cyclist arrested for carrying knives, suspected methamphetamine

A 38-year-old Wallaceburg man was released by a court earlier this year after he was allegedly caught with a knife and some suspected methamphetamine while riding a bicycle and is back in police custody.

Police said they stopped the man about 1:50 a.m. Tuesday after they saw the man riding his bike on Wallace Street in Wallaceburg.

He had exceeded a court-imposed curfew and violated two other conditions of release by allegedly carrying a weapon and some drugs without a valid prescription, officials said.

The accused was charged and taken to police headquarters pending a bail hearing.
