Legal Aid of Windsor is now serving survivors of gender-based violence and sexual assault.
Justice Canada’s Victims Fund and Justice Partnerships and Innovation Program provides funding for a lawyer and a social worker to support services for the next four years.
“Not only will we provide legal advice and representation, but we will also provide safety planning work, social work assessments and referrals to agencies,” said Marianne Overholt, executive director of Legal Aid in Windsor.
All individuals in the community, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation, have free access to trauma-informed legal counseling.
“We are able to provide support for people who have experienced emotional and psychological violence, as well as financial abuse and other forms of violence that occur in intimate partnerships,” said social worker Amanda Pierce.
These services can be accessed by contacting Windsor Legal Aid.
