Forget the endless spy shots of drab, matte black prototypes, because the production Dakar is full of character, especially when equipped with the optional Rally Design package from the 1984 Paris Rally-winning Important cues were drawn from the pioneering all-wheel drive racing car, the 911.Dakar Rally, paving the way For the 959 supercar.

At the heart of the Dakar’s $223,450 (including $1,450 in freight) is its ride height, which is 2.0 inches (50 mm) higher than a standard all-wheel-drive 911 and can be raised a further 1.2 inches (30 mm). Porsche says, “Advanced” off-road mode, activated via the turn of the steering wheel controller, gives the Dakar similar ground clearance and slope angles to some regular SUVs, and speeds up to 105 mph (170 km/h) before reverting to normal height.
The off-road model is also designed to maximize traction in low-grip situations, while another new Model Porsche Phone The “Rally” is designed for loose, uneven surfaces and sends most of its power to the rear axle. Both modes feature Rally Launch Control, which allows 20 percent wheel slip for quick starts on loose surfaces and takes advantage of the grip provided by the 245/45 ZR19 and 295/40 ZR20 Pirelli Scorpion all-terrain rubber. The Scorpions feature 9mm-deep tread blocks and two carcass plies for durability in the dirt, but you can choose Pirelli P Zero summer or winter tires if you prefer.
Limited to 150MPH, but does 0-60 in 3.2 seconds
Unfortunately, those tricky off-road tires forced Porsche to impose a 150mph (240km/h) limiter, making the Dakar the slowest global-spec 911 since 1983 (although, some with cats 911 below 150 mph until the 964 reaches the US). That year, the 152 mph (245 km/h) 3.2 Carrera replaced the 146 mph (235 km/h) SC in Europe. But there’s no question the Dakar would have been faster if Porsche had allowed it. The 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six takes inspiration from the 192-mph (309 km/h) 911 Carrera 4 GTS and develops 473 hp (480 hp) and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) from the obligatory eight-cylinder m) of torque. Speed PDK transmission.
The Dakar’s 3.2-second zero to 60 mph (3.4 seconds to 100 km/h) is only a tenth shy of the figure of the $149,900 GTS that Porsche quotes, and impressive as these Pirelli Scorpion The design was not in mind.Considering the Dakar is equipped with kit like four-wheel steering and dynamic engine mounts, it’s even more surprising that the 3,552-pound (1,611-kg) curb weight is within 16 pounds (7.3 kg) of the GTS, despite the GTS Features None of these goodies are standard.
But Porsche worked hard to lighten the Dakar, replacing the electric rear spoiler with a fixed version, installing the GT3’s lightweight carbon fiber-reinforced plastic hood, thinner glass, bucket seats instead of heavier comfort seats, and Ditch the rear seats completely.
These functions can be found on any RS 911, but the raised ride height, red forged aluminum tow hooks, fender and sill extensions, solid stainless steel body trim and protective mesh grille above the air intakes will ensure that you never take the Dakar I’m confused with RS. If you really want to get the message home, you can equip your 911 with the Rally Design Package.

less other expensive dakar endemic Options include Shade Green paint and an off-road roof rack/basket. Porsche made just 2,500 of the Dakar, though we suspect the model will return again and become a fixture in the next-gen 911, sort of GT3 RS and SpeedsterThe model’s versatility and sheer novelty – the first genuinely different 911 in a long time – meant assigning one would be difficult.
Even if you can get the car, you’ll have to decide if it’s the better 911-shaped home for your $220,020 (plus $1,450 destination) than a 911 GT3 RS or The 911 Turbo S, priced almost exactly the same but with very different characteristics.
