B.C. hockey arena employee arrested after phone found in girls change room

A 21-year-old Trail man was arrested this week and may face voyeurism charges following a disturbing incident at Fruitvale’s Beaver Valley Arena.

On Wednesday night (November 16), a group of girls at Beaver Valley Arena noticed a phone in the girls’ locker room while preparing for hockey practice and notified a parent.

The parent took the phone and handed it over to a responding officer.

The man, who worked at the arena, was arrested and later released under a number of conditions, including not having contact with the victim or entering the space with anyone under the age of 18. He was also banned from the Beaver Valley Arena and from possession of any recording equipment.

The man has not been identified because no charges had been laid as of Thursday. However, he is expected to appear in Rossland Provincial Court on February 23.

“I would like to commend the actions of these girls and notify the parents immediately,” said the detachment commander, Sgt. Mike Vicentovich.

“Trail RCMP is in contact with arena management and will work with them to take steps to help prevent this from happening in the future.”
