The City of Bluewater held a special committee meeting this week to discuss its concerns about the Ford government’s Build More Homes, Faster Act.
Mayor Paul Klopp said one of their main concerns was the impact on the development fees charged by the municipality.
“In terms of how we get financed for future projects, they want to reduce what we get from the development fee, and the money we get from businesses or individuals when we build the house, and then we ask, ‘Will they make up the difference?’ ’,” Klopp said.
Klopp added that they were concerned about the rezoning process.
“We’re a little concerned about the rezoning process and the public’s voice in these discussions. We understand the government is trying to simplify the process, we’re not opposed to it, we just want to clarify some of the things,” Klopp said.
At the end of the day, Klopp said, they’re just trying to make sure that municipalities and taxpayers don’t have to foot the bill for the costs that usually go to the people who build the buildings.
