SIU called to investigate crash in Corunna

The province’s police watchdog has been called to investigate a car crash in Coruña on Wednesday.

Sometime in the afternoon, officers were called to the scene of a collision on St. Clair Parkway and St. Clair Boulevard, according to Lambton County Police in Ontario. The area was briefly closed while police investigated and the scene was cleared.

Few details were provided, but the OPP said it had contacted the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) to take over the investigation.

The SIU will invoke its mandate if a member of the Ontario Provincial Police, some of the SWAT officers and sheriffs are involved in an incident that results in serious injury, death, shooting of someone, or allegations of sexual assault.

Sarnia News Today has contacted the SIU for comment.
