Sarnia will welcome some of the top 2023 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft prospects to the city this weekend for the league’s hockey U16 AAA showdown.
Twelve teams will play 24 league games at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena from November 18-20.
League executive director Tony Martindale said fans will enjoy some high-quality hockey without an entry fee.
He’d like to see some scouts in attendance.
“I think every team in the OHL is going to be there with the GOJHL,” Martindale said. “Sometimes at these events we even have two or three scouts for different OHL teams. It’s definitely taken care of.”
Martindale said there is some top talent in town.
“We have 40 to 50 kids who get drafted into the OHL every year from this league,” he said. “Fans are going to see some really superb hockey. No matter what game they play, there’s a lot of equality in the league. Everyone has to play a game that even the top teams have a good chance of getting beat.”
Lambton Jr. Sting will be joined by teams from Chatham-Kent, Windsor, London, Kitchener, Cambridge, Elgin-Middlesex, Hamilton, Waterloo, Huron-Perth, Brantford and Sun County.
