Christmas returns to Tecumseh Friday

Tecumseh kicks off the holiday season this weekend.

After two years of programming modifications due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the town will resume a full-scale “Christmas in Tecumseh” Friday night, including a Santa Claus parade as well as Tecumseh City Hall and Tecumseh An arena for festival-themed events in and around Musai.

At the heart of the event is the parade and arrival of the merry old elves from the North Pole. The parade will feature bands, floats, decorated vehicles, local dance troupes and community groups. The parade will start from Lacasse Boulevard in Clapp at 6pm and travel south along Lacasse to Tecumseh Road East, then west across the train tracks to Lesperance Road and finally north to Town Hall.

On-street parking will be prohibited along the parade route from 4 p.m. Friday until early Saturday morning. Detours will be in place.

Once Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at City Hall, the rest of the evening will begin. At Tecumseh Arena, Santa Claus and Santa Claus will greet visitors in the central ice room. The parking lot will feature musical accompaniment from the Myskow Brothers, marshmallow toasting, face painting and balloon animals, holiday crafts and public skating. And free hot dogs, chips, coffee and hot chocolate while supplies last.

Visitors are invited to test their golf skills on the putting green at Town Center Park and bring their lawn chairs and blankets for an outdoor screening of the film Mickey’s Once Upon a ChristmasSponsored by Pathway to Potential.

Tecumseh Fire and Rescue will be hosting an open house in their Lesperance Fire Hall.

If you’re going, be sure to dress warmly. Environment Canada is forecasting cloudy Friday night with a low of -8 C.
