Former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi on Saturday condemned voter apathy in the Rivers state’s gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
the rainSpeaking to reporters after the vote in Ubima, Ikwerre local council Rivers rebuked Premier Nyesom Wike for announcing people wanted in the state.
The former Rivers State governor blamed the election violence and other irregularities on leadership failures.
He also slammed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for misconduct in the presidential election.
“This is how we praised INEC when the February 25 elections started, which turned out to be one of the worst elections in Nigeria’s history,” said Amaechi.
“Looking at what’s going on now, the governance of this country is a complete failure. A complete failure. The police are helping the PDP to arrest APC and SDP members. People are being arrested, but no one is speaking.

“The governor has no power to declare anyone wanted. People are declared wanted and the IGP is doing nothing. No one is doing anything. Complete failure.
“Right now voter apathy. I don’t know if it’s across the whole of Nigeria. But voter apathy in Rivers state. Nobody wants to come out because people are scared.
“Although, I have no evidence that these reports are false, but you really have to fight to make sure there is no violence.
“Many of us are against re-election of Mahmood Yakubu. The person who nominated him is a member of the Tinnub camp. So what are you waiting for.”
