B.C. raises freshwater fishing fees, with funds supporting angling and conservation

Freshwater fishing in British Columbia will cost you more this year.

The provincial government announced that fishing fee It was the first rise since 2003. Anglers will grow by 9.9% in 2023/24 and 4% in 2024/25. That means the cost of a basic adult angler license will increase to $39.56 per year in 2023, and then to $41.15 in 2024.

All income from freshwater fishing fees goes to BC Freshwater Fisheries Association and Habitat Conservation Trust Help support the management of BC’s fisheries, habitats and opportunities for anglers

The fee increase is expected to provide additional funding for both organizations in their efforts to provide conservation services to residents of the province. The provincial fishing advisory group approved the increase.

The BC Freshwater Fisheries Association operates a provincial stocking program that stocks more than 5.4 million fish annually in 641 lakes. The nonprofit works with government, industry and anglers to improve the province’s fisheries by enhancing and protecting British Columbia’s freshwater fish stocks.

The Habitat Conservation Trust is a not-for-profit charity that invests in BC’s fish and wildlife and their habitats. A large network of recipients benefits from their funds to develop conservation projects and educational programs designed to inspire learning and connections to BC’s biodiversity.

How do I get a BC freshwater fishing license?

Licenses can be purchased online from Freshwater Fisheries Electronic Permit or in person from license provider.

Freshwater fishing licenses range from single-day options to annual licenses valid from April 1 to March 31.
