The Sarnia Humane Society received a call from the Northern Reach Rescue Network on Saturday night saying a husky had been hit by a car. Grieve suffered a broken leg and severe lacerations that required surgery.
A second dog named Buddy also suffered a leg injury and also required the long trek from northern Ontario to Sarnia.
The Humane Society said Pilots4Paws, a London-based nonprofit, quickly came forward and agreed to help. Pilots Jeremy Hall and Dave Vee flew the 2,500km in about four hours, the group’s single-day flight record, to bring the dogs to Sarnia.
Dr. Tom Kostuch of Bright’s Grove Veterinary Hospital is scheduled to evaluate the dogs on Monday morning, followed by surgery.
