‘Hero’ neighbors help free New Westminster kids trapped in garage doors
Police say child was ‘entangled in garage door’
Quick action by a New Westminster neighbor saved a child who was caught in a moving garage door on Sunday night (April 2).
According to New West Police Sgt. Andrew Leaver was a “heroic neighbor who heard his mother’s grief and rushed to save the child who couldn’t free himself from the moving parts of the garage door.”
The child is believed to have become entangled and injured by the garage door and the investigation is still ongoing. Leaver could not comment further on the children’s condition or any treatment they received.
“Nonetheless, we believe the child’s clothing may have been a factor in this incident.”
Fire Chief Erin Williams said it was “heart-warming” to see neighbors doing the right thing.
