Stellantis minivan sales down in first quarter of 2023

Sales of the Windsor-built minivan were part of a downward trend in Stellantis sales in the first quarter of this year.

FCA Canada released first-quarter sales figures on Monday, reporting an overall decline of 6% compared to the first quarter of 2022.

While sales of individual models were mixed, the automaker said Canadian sales of the Windsor-built Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid and Chrysler Grand Caravan were down, with the Pacifica down 40 percent and the Grand Caravan down 51 percent.

There was some good news in the sales report, with sales of Stellantis’ PHEV model topping the Canadian plug-in.

“We are encouraged by our continued leadership in PHEV sales as we execute on the company’s Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan,” said Jason Stoicevich, President of Stellantis Canada. “Meanwhile, vehicles such as the leading Ram 1500, Wagoneer and Dodge Durango showed double-digit growth during the quarter and continue to resonate in a highly competitive segment, despite ongoing global challenges facing the industry.”

Sales of the Jeep Wagoneer rose 36% year-over-year. The base Jeep Cherokee model is up 60 percent, while the Grand Cherokee L-Series is up 62 percent.

Dodge Durango sales are up 43%, Ram pickup sales are up 10%, and Dodge ProMaster van sales are up 253% from the same period in 2022.
