Fence stops vehicles during police chase

Charges are being filed against a 34-year-old driver who crashed and fled in Chatham on Wednesday morning.

The Chatham-Kent OPP said they were investigating reports of a stolen vehicle on Silvana Drive where the dryer allegedly tried to evade police and crashed into a fence.

At the time, the driver allegedly started running, but was “in security custody,” according to the OPP.

Man attacked with shovel during health check

A 24-year-old Dresden man is facing assault charges for allegedly hitting someone with a shovel when someone went to check on him.

Police said they were called to the scene on Brownstrasse in Dresden just after 7.30pm on Tuesday and were informed that the victim was checking on the man who lived behind the house and allegedly charged the victim And hit them with a shovel.

The force of the blow allegedly knocked the victim to the ground and caused undisclosed bodily injuries.

The man accused of brandishing the shovel was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon. He was taken to police headquarters, where he is to await a bail hearing.

Windsor man accused of breaking and entering in Chatham, assaulting neighbors

A 54-year-old Windsor man is facing multiple charges for allegedly breaking into a residence on Grand Avenue East in Chatham and then beating a neighbor who confronted him.

Police said they were called just before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday and when they arrived they learned the suspect had allegedly entered the residence through a window to retrieve some personal items.

The man also allegedly punched a neighbor who confronted him, leaving the unidentified victim injured.

The Windsor man was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and one count of breaking and entering.

He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Chatham-Kent man arrested after riot on city bus

A 74-year-old Chatham-Kent man spent time in police custody after allegedly causing a disturbance on a city bus in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said they arrested him after receiving a call about a disturbance on St Clair Street shortly after 12:00pm on Tuesday.

The accused was taken to police headquarters and held there until he regained consciousness.
