‘Hopping good time’ returns to Canatara

On Saturday, Canatara Park will be buzzing with the whole family at the park’s 53rd annual Easter event.

This free event, hosted by the City of Sarnia and the Seaway Kiwanis Club, will be held near the Children’s Animal Farm from 9am to 12pm.

Community services coordinator Rachel Veilleux said the main attraction Easter egg hunt will begin at 10 a.m.

The egg hunt area will be divided into age groups from 8 and over, 7 and under, 4 and under as well as accessibility needs. Veilleux says there will be plenty of signage, but a map of the egg hunt can be found on the website city website.

“In addition to the egg hunt, we have a variety of activities including egg decorating, Pysanky Easter egg painting demonstrations, train rides, treats including cotton candy, hot dogs and popcorn, and even a one-man circus show Jonathan.”

Circus Johnathan shows from 9:30am to 10am and 11:30am to 12noon

While Canatara’s Easter events have always included a craft station, Veilleux said this year’s decorating options are a little different.

“We’re partnering with Crock A Doodle to offer ceramic eggs that attendees can paint with the Crock A Doodle team on-site,” she said. “We also added our egg pals paint station this year, where kids can come and paint egg pals on their hands.”

Veilleux said they expect to see about 1,000 kids throughout the three-hour event.

To expand park space and ensure the safety of attendees, the parking lot around Animal Farm will close at 6am. Accessible parking and limited attendee parking will be located along Cathcart Avenue in front of the Seaway Kiwanis Pavilion.

Volunteers will help guide motorists, but, Veilleux said, attendees are encouraged to park in beach parking lots.
