A major restoration project on the Bonnie Doon Creek Bridge will result in months of road closures and detours.
Beginning Tuesday, April 11, Lakeshore Road will be closed in both directions between the Aberarder Line and Hillcrest Road in Plympton-Wyoming.
Lambton County Public Works Manager Matt Deline said while it’s not yet a safety issue, the quality of the bridge is deteriorating and new decks are needed.
“The existing structure was built in the mid-1960s as part of the rezoning of Lake Shore Road,” Deline said. “Based on bridge inspections, several key components of the structure have deteriorated to the extent that major repairs to the bridge are required.”

McLean Taylor Construction of St. Marys will undertake the project at a cost of $2.1 million, Deline said.
It is expected to end in late September and in the meantime traffic will be detoured east using sections of the Aberarder Line and Oil Heritage Road.
Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the work zone during this time.
Deline said they haven’t upgraded the bridge since some minor work was done on site in the late 1990s and mid-2000s.
He realizes that these types of construction projects can be inconvenient.
“Completing a major infrastructure project such as this, while inconvenient, is necessary to maintain the level of service that all residents have come to expect from the county-wide road network. We appreciate everyone’s patience and support as we complete this work.”
