County council endorses drug and alcohol strategy

County councilors passed the 2022-2023 Lambton Drug and Alcohol Strategy on Wednesday.

Development of the strategy began in fall 2019 but was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has been described as a blueprint for community action to reduce the harm of drug and alcohol abuse.

“Substance use and the increasingly toxic and unregulated supply of drugs present a critical and significant public health issue in Lambton County,” Dr. Karalyn Dueck, Medical Officer of Health, said in a news release. “This strategy is tailored to local needs and will work at multiple levels, including the individual, the local environment and key policies. This has been a truly collaborative effort and I would like to thank all Steering Committee members and all contributors.”

Lambton County Council directed staff to work with community stakeholders to take the strategy forward.

A press conference is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12 to discuss the plan and outline next steps.
