Lambton College celebrates Indigenous culture Thursday

Aboriginal culture will be on full display on Thursday as Lambton College hosts its 28th annual Pow Wow.

Aboriginal education director Jane Manning said it was a great opportunity for residents to learn about the Aboriginal community.

“About 30 years ago, when the Aboriginal Students’ Union originally wanted to hold the first Pow Wow, it was really about raising awareness and building appreciation for Aboriginal people. Sometimes, it was really about fighting some of the negative narratives. “

The festivities will include drummers, dancers, food and art vendors, Manning said.

“Spring is here, and we really celebrate that newness,” she says. “It’s about the freshness of life and just seeing our friends and acquaintances again, making new ones and coming together in a celebratory way.”

Held at the Athletics and Fitness Center from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, the event kicks off with a traditional grand entrance.

Doors open at 10 am

All are welcome.
