Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation celebrating Earth Day with beach clean-up

The Lake Huron Coastal Conservation Center invites all to celebrate the planet we call home by participating in an Earth Day beach cleanup on April 22.

“Our Earth Day Beach Cleanup and BBQ is a fun, family-friendly event to help keep Lake Huron free from plastic pollution and preserve wildlife, and last year we had 133 volunteers remove 200 pounds of plastic from the Goderich shoreline litter,” said Alyssa Bourassa, a coastal management technician.

Bourassa added that the Earth Day cleanup is just the start of their 2023 plan for plastic pollution.

“Our goal is to engage 700 volunteers and divert more than 100,000 pounds of trash from entering Lake Huron through the 13 beach cleanups we will host this year, from Sarnia to Georgian Bay,” she says.

Bourassa invites all to join them on Saturday, April 22nd. Cleanups are taking place at St Christopher’s Beach in Goderich from 10am to 1pm. For those interested in volunteering, volunteers can RSVP by visiting the Lake Huron Shore Center website.
