Speedfarm Running Club dominates Westcoast Sooke 10K

Brennen Smith and Jennifer Erickson of the Oak Bay Speedfarm Running Club were victors in the Westcoast Sooke 10K in the Vancouver Island Horse Racing Series on Easter Sunday.

Smith finished in 32:17 and Eriksson in 37:23.

The event also saw great performances from Andrew Russell and Catrin Jones, representing the Prairie Inn Harriers Running Club, who finished top two in the 40-plus master class.

Russell finished second overall with a time of 32:43, while Jones secured third place in the women’s division with a time of 38:42.

Despite the holiday delay, the event saw 316 participants out of an expected 450-550 finishers, braving forecasted weather conditions of mild temperatures, light rain and no wind.

“Today’s event was fantastic. We couldn’t be happier with how the winners performed on the rolling course. It was inspiring to see so many people challenge the track,” said race director Kathleen Quast .

The final race of the 2023 Vancouver Island Series is the Synergy Health Bazan Bay 5K, scheduled for April 23.

According to TC10K race director Lucy Smith, the Bazan Bay 5K is an excellent adjustment to the TC10K. It provides invaluable race practice and is recoverable in time for a 10K considering the distance is short enough.
