Petrolia mayor taking medical leave

Petrolia Mayor R. Brad Loosely is resigning as mayor as he deals with a medical issue.

The city announced that council member Joel Field will step in to support the community as acting mayor. He was appointed by the other Council members on the recommendation of the Mayor of Lusley. The decision was made at a closed council meeting on Tuesday night.

The town, through its bylaws, sets a schedule for the acting mayor, who rotates between councillors every two months.

“For this temporary sabbatical, the City Council approved the appointment of an Acting Mayor for a three-month term, thus continuing the tradition of supporting the community and the City Council and providing a clear point of contact,” a copy from the town of Petrolia.

Field will represent the City at county councils and events, and when that commitment is not met, other councilors will continue to support Acting Mayor Joel Field during any event as needed.

During this three-month time frame, residents will contact Field with items that would otherwise be sent to Loosley.

“On behalf of the council and staff, we wish Mayor R. Brad Loosley well and look forward to his return to the chair of Petrolia Town Council,” the statement concluded.
