A vehicle reported stolen from the Sarnia area has been recovered by Lambton County Police, whose investigation also uncovered several illegal drugs and weapons.
Police say a vehicle with mismatched license plates was spotted on Camlachie Road in Plimpton-Wyoming on Tuesday, prompting an investigation by the Ontario Lambton County Police Service (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit and patrol officers.
According to police, it has been determined that the same vehicle was stolen in the Sarnia area in early April.
The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and taken into custody.
After a search of the vehicle and its occupants, police said a variety of drugs were found, including methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, oxycodone and hydromorphone. A loaded firearm, several other weapons and more stolen property were also found, police said.
A 51-year-old man from Thames Aboriginal Chippewas faces charges including possession of stolen property over $5,000, five counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance and two counts of possession of a prohibited device, according to the findings. and seven counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition while prohibited.
The second suspect, a 30-year-old Thames Aboriginal Chippewa man, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, five counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance and two counts of possession of a prohibited weapon.
Both defendants are due to appear in court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.
