Unoccupied house goes up in flames

An overnight fire in the Mandaumin Road and Confederation Line area caused significant damage to the home and left it “completely written off”.

The Plympton Wyoming fire station was assisted by Petrolia and North Enniskillen fire stations shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

Petrolia Fire Chief Jay Arns said the house was unoccupied at the time.

“By the time crews got there, the house was completely destroyed,” he said.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown and damages are expected to be substantial, possibly in the range of $500,000.

Arnes said firefighters were likely to remain on scene through most of Wednesday morning.

Residents were asked to avoid the area.
