Charges linked to chemical liquid attack in central Victoria
Ten counts of sexual assault with a weapon established
Charges have been laid over a series of chemical liquid attacks in Victoria starting in November 2022.
A statement from Victoria Police said women aged between 15 and 48 were “sprayed or splashed” with an unidentified liquid as they walked or sat in central Victoria.
“Some women described a burning sensation and reported that the substance damaged the fabric of their clothing,” the statement read. “The fluid is believed to be a corrosive substance.”
The VicPD launched an investigation on December 30 and arrested a suspect. On March 14, Victorian resident Sean O’Reilly was charged with 10 counts of sexual assault with a weapon, police said.
O’Reilly is currently awaiting trial and is subject to conditions.
