Provincial police have launched an animal cruelty investigation after a Waterford family’s dog was poisoned.
The 2-year-old French mastiff named Bain was rushed to a local veterinary hospital on March 16 and was pronounced dead.
That afternoon, the tanned, colored dog fell ill at his home on Bruce Street. His owner called the Norfolk OPP to investigate.
The OPP said Thursday that tests conducted at the clinic found that Baine ingested a significant amount of poison.
“I spoke to Bain’s boss, and the boss is clearly still upset about what happened to their pet,” Detective Constable Ed Sanchuk said. “If anyone in the Waterford area has any information about someone who may have talked about this, any information about this investigation, we hope you have the courage to pick up the phone and contact police or Crime Stoppers.”
Investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
