FC Pacific has added two local lads to its roster ahead of the 2023 season.
The pair come from the club’s development plan, Van Isle Wave. Sami Marvasti, 16, and Jack Garner, 17, signed Canadian Premier League development contracts, which allow amateur players to join professional club rosters without losing their relationship with the amateurs. The ability of the team to train and play together.
Marvasti spent part of his youth career with local club Saanich Fusion FC as a midfielder. He currently plays for the VI Wave ’06 Boys, but hopes to make his senior debut this year.
“It’s so nice to be home and be on the island. It’s been amazing and all the people have brought me in like we’re all family,” Marvasti said.
Garner was a member of the VI Wave ’07 Boys team and also played as a young player for local club Gorge FC.
“This is an exciting step in youth development within FC Pacific,” said Sean Fidik, Executive Director of Youth Programs at FC Pacific. “These two players were role models and models for what they did on and off the field.”
The team also announced that they will sign goalkeeper Emil Gazdov to a three-year contract, which will see him stay at the club until 2026. Gadzdorf, 19, is the heir apparent to outgoing goalkeeper Callum Irving, who was in the off-season.
Another young prospect has put PFC into practice. 19-year-old draft guard Eric Lajeunesse has signed a U SPORTS contract that will allow him to maintain his U SPORTS eligibility while gaining professional experience. He was selected with the sixth overall pick in the 2023 CPL-U SPORTS draft.
