Environment Canada has issued special air quality statements for parts of Ontario, including Sarnia and Lambton counties, London and Middlesex counties, Windsor and Essex counties, Chatham-Kent, Oxford counties, Elgin, Huron, Perth, Bruce and Gray counties.
Air quality is likely to deteriorate Friday, the agency said.
The hot and sunny weather expected on Friday afternoon will lead to an increase in ground-level ozone concentrations, causing severe air pollution.
Environment Canada says individuals may experience symptoms such as an increased cough, throat irritation, headache or shortness of breath. Children, the elderly, and people with cardiovascular disease or lung disease (such as asthma) are especially vulnerable.
If you develop symptoms, consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activity until the Special Air Quality Statement is lifted.
