Transit Windsor adding new 418X route by late June

Some of the improvements to Transit Windsor approved in the latest budget will begin in late June.

Windsor City Council approved $950,000 for service upgrades in the 2023 budget. Improvements include new 418X routes, expansion of other existing routes, and extended Sunday service.

“As far as I know, this is the largest single increase in service times for Transit Windsor in decades,” said executive director Tyson Cragg. “Our goal is to make the bus ride as convenient as possible.”

The budget increase allows for an additional 18,000 service hours to support nine routes.

The 418X east-west express route will run along Tecumseh Road, connecting students to the University of Windsor.

“The plan right now is to have it up and running by the end of June. This is probably one of the most significant changes we’re making. Others may follow in late 2023 or early 2024,” Cragg said.

Transit Windsor ridership is now 118% of pre-pandemic levels.
