Wingham ER temporarily closing on Saturday



Wingham’s emergency room will be closed for most of Saturday due to staff shortages.

In a news release issued late Friday, Wingham and Regional Hospital said the emergency department would be closed between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday. The department will reopen for regular 24/7 care after 7pm on April 15th.

“Patients experiencing a medical emergency should call 911,” said a statement from the Listowel Wingham Hospital Alliance. “Emergency medical services will continue to be provided to the community and will be rerouted to surrounding hospitals to ensure local residents continue to have access to them.” Emergency services needed.”

Those with non-emergency health care concerns should seek advice by calling Health Connect Ontario at 811, a 24-hour service for non-urgent health-related issues.

The next closest hospital is in Listowel, Clinton, Goderich, Palmerston, Seaforth, Kincardine or Walkerton. Be sure to check that these facilities are open before going, as they may also experience staff operational issues.

“This is a temporary measure, and our staff, board, doctors and leadership regret that we had to take this step,” the statement continued. “We thank our staff and doctors for their support, and thank the community for their patience and understanding during this time.”
