St. Thomas teenager accused of assaulting, threatening officers

A young teenager has had to go to court for allegedly beating and threatening to injure several St Thomas officers.

The St. Thomas Police Department reported two teens missing Thursday. Several resources were then mobilized to investigate their disappearance, police officials said. During the course of their investigation, police determined the couple were in crisis and warranted their arrest under the Mental Health Act.

An officer located the teens in the city center at around 10:40 p.m., according to police, when the situation was escalating.

A police statement said: “While trying to get the two young men to support and reconnect them with their families, one of them struck an officer in the face, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

The officer was treated for injuries and was released from the hospital, police said. The teens, who were accused of assaulting the officers, were eventually taken into custody and reportedly continued to be hostile to officers.

While in custody, the teen threatened to kill the officers involved in their arrest and spat in the face of another officer, police said.

The 13-year-old St Thomas teenager was later charged with battery causing bodily harm, resisting arrest, battery and making death threats. They were later released on the promise of a future court date.
