Stratford Police caution scammers are claiming to be Crown Attorney

The Stratford Police Department is warning residents of a potential scam that is using the address of the local attorney’s office.

According to police, scammers posed as Amazon employees to contact victims. They informed the victims that a crime had occurred and referred them to lawyers who then demanded personal information and money.

Fraudsters use the phone numbers of local attorney’s offices and provide their names.

Officials are reminding residents that many of the scams involve phone spoofing (displaying false information on a call display to make a call appear legitimate).

Police say no government agency will contact you by phone asking for money or personal information.
