Teen killed while riding 503 bus on April 11





A 20-year-old suspect has been arrested in the stabbing death of 17-year-old Ethan Bespflug in Surrey, the Integrated Homicide Squad announced on Monday (April 17).

Ethan was stabbed April 11 while riding the 503 bus in the 9900 block of King George Boulevard and died in hospital. He reportedly cycled home from a friend’s house and texted his mother saying he was threatened by “some kids” and he was terrified.

Speaking to media at the BC RCMP headquarters in Green Timbers, IHIT said the stabbings were a targeted attack, not a random one. IHIT said the suspect and victim were known through a third party.

The suspect is in custody and no charges have been laid.

Ethan is Surrey’s fifth homicide victim so far this year.

Meanwhile, Surrey RCMP said police had no reason to suspect “any link” between Ethan’s stabbing and a man’s throat slashed at Fraser Highway and 148 Street on April 1 – also in a car. 503 bus. , Abdul Aziz Kawam, charged with four terrorism-related offences, Kawam is accused of committing crimes on behalf of the Islamic State, also known as ISIS.
