Overnight barbershop blaze causes $300K damage

An overnight fire in a south London barber shop has caused an estimated $300,000 in damage.

Firefighters were called to the Berenice Barbershop at 1775 Ernest Ave., just south of Southdale Road East, around 1 a.m. Tuesday. The flames managed to spread to two adjacent units on the plaza before firefighters arrived to extinguish the blaze about half an hour after they arrived.

London Fire Brigade said on social media: “The fire damage did extend beyond the unit of origin, affecting two units on each side.”

No injuries were reported.

Investigators will now work to determine the origin, origin and circumstances of the fire.
