Perth-Wellington Hospital awarded more than $6 million to support after-hours care.
MPP Matthew Rae announced on April 17 that the three hospitals will be partially funded through the province’s Hospital On Call (HOCC) program.
“This is great news for our rural health care system,” Rae said. “This funding will allow our hospitals to continue to provide quality care 24/7.”
Stratford General Hospital received $2,308,501 in funding, Guelph General Hospital received $2,641,573 and Groves Memorial Community Hospital received $1,207,642 for more consistent after-hours coverage.
The announcement follows a previous agreement between the Ontario Medical Association and the Ontario Ministry of Health to increase earmarked funding for on-call physicians.
The province is investing $259 million to support on-call services in Ontario’s acute care hospitals, including more than $3 million at Grey-Bruce Hospital.
