United Way Perth Huron is partnering with the Goderich Huron YMCA to support its new Goderich Youth Collective leadership programme.
Megan Partridge, Director of Governance and Community Impact, said local volunteers felt youth isolation was a major issue, so they were delighted to be able to help support the programme.
“It will be a 16-week opportunity for young people to get out with their peers and learn about healthy living, active living, while also developing leadership and mental health together,” she said .
The program is open to anyone ages 14 to 17 and does not require YMCA membership.
Partridge said the program will involve the physical aspect because they know that leads to life skills and better mental health, and it will be around leadership and different skills.
“It’s a new plan for the district, so make plans based on what young people are telling the YMCA at this time, and that’s how things will unfold,” she said. “Similar planning has been done in other areas, but Y wants to make sure it works for the young people here.”
