New partnership supports Owen Sound hydrogen company

Hydrogen Optimized, an Owen Sound company, is partnering with Texas-based Flowserve Corporation to advance hydrogen production using innovative technologies.

Hydrogen Optimized says the patented RuggedCell water electrolyzer is designed to achieve the lowest levelized cost of clean hydrogen at scale.

They convert renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power into green hydrogen. The high power architecture of the process enables a 50 MW+ single module to meet the clean energy needs of major industrial applications such as steelmaking, ammonia production and e-fuels.

Under a memorandum of understanding, Flowserve will supply liquid ring compressors to Hydrogen Optimized for use in its high capacity demonstration facility. Flowserve will also provide engineering support to help optimize the efficiency of its hydrogen production backend.

Hydrogen Optimized hopes this collaboration will help them commercialize their systems more quickly. Flowserve will be able to review key performance data for its products to create leading technologies to meet future decarbonization efforts.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Hydrogen Optimized as we are fully aligned in our goal of accelerating decarbonization solutions globally,” said Mike Mancuso, Vice President of Marketing and Technology at Flowserve. “As we work together to reduce carbon emissions, we look forward to gaining valuable insights from this collaboration that will help pave the way for future product innovations at Flowserve – better helping our customers achieve their goals.” decarbonization goals.”

“Flowserve has an excellent reputation for quality and reliability, and we are pleased to partner with them,” said Andrew TB Stuart, President and CEO of Hydrogen Optimized. “We look forward to demonstrating how the integration of the RuggedCell water electrolyzer with the Flowserve compressor will create a superior product to meet the rapidly growing demand for large-scale green hydrogen systems.”
